OPS

OPS is different from other types of thermoformable sheet due to the special manufacturing process.

During extrusion the sheet is stretched in the transverse direction as well as the longitudinal direction.

This is done to orientate the molecular structure of the polymer to obtain strength and at the same time maintain polystyrene's glass like transparency.

The result is a sheet which is extremely clear and has high stiffness which is an advantage in many different types of trays, lids and hinged containers.

Also cutting requires only little force and the knife wear is very low.

Special formulas are available for anti fog properties and for applications which require high flexibility (for example hinged containers).

Our preferred partner on OPS has a reputation for high and consistent quality as well as precise logistics.

Specific weight is only 1,05 g/cm3 whereas APET is 1,35 g/cm3.

Adding to this weight saving is the fact that it is often possible to down gauge 10% on thickness compared to an identical application in APET. This is possible due to the high stiffness of OPS.

All in all OPS is a commercially attractive alternative to APET for those types of packages suitable to be made from OPS.
